HISTORY
In 1992 LA STRADA’s history begins. Within an summer festival from Quartier e.V., an sponsorship association for far reaching cultural work, Bremen invites to a street performers meeting as an collective pilot project from the Sommerbühne and the kontorhaus (later theaterkontor) for the first time. The summer festival takes place in Bremen’s district Kattenturm.
In 1994 LA STRADA gets its own name and is organised as an self-contained festival. The festival now also takes place in the districts Woltmershausen and Vegesack, beside Kattenturm. The festival is arranged by the Kontorhaus in cooperation with Quartier e.V.
From 1999 on the festival moves to Bremen’s centre. The local festival’s concept is given up for the benefit of an focussing on the Hanseatic city’s centre. From now you can enjoy the shows in the centre. The festival’s conception lies in the hands of the Kontorhaus.
After an ten-day-festival as partial-programme of the Expo in 2000 LA STRADA has to move from the centre to the nearby public park “Wallanlagen” because of reconstruction measures. A new space concept, another focus at the programme and new event partnerships are developed. LA STRADA finds back to its rhythm of four festival days.
After the development of an coherent concept for the public park, LA STRADA looks for new challenges and moves back to the festival’s place in the centre in 2006 where it opens up Bremen’s tourism centre anew. The organisers had success with the development of an complete new space concept for public space and the cooperation with new partners in the first year.
